Aircraft Hangar Resin Flooring
Hangar decks take a punishing mix of jack-pad point loads, Skydrol spills and constant tow-tractor movement. The right spec is a high-build epoxy or PU with a Skydrol-resistant top coat and a finish reflective enough to work under the airframe.
Why resin flooring works in aircraft hangars.
Aircraft hangar floors take a load profile you don't see anywhere else — point loading under jack pads and tow tractors, aggressive chemistry from Skydrol and jet-A, and daily inspection under bright lighting where every mark shows. The right spec is a high-build epoxy or PU with a reflective seal that pushes ambient light around the airframe and takes the chemistry without softening.
We install into GA hangars, corporate-jet MRO, rotary maintenance bays and paint-and-strip facilities. Every project is scoped against the airframes worked on, the chemistry involved and any ESD or grounding requirements.
Common flooring challenges
- Skydrol hydraulic fluid dissolving standard epoxies within days of a spill
- Point loading under jack pads and tow tractors cracking thin coatings
- ESD requirements around avionics work and fuelling zones
- Light-management — hangars depend on floor reflectivity to work under the airframe
- Line marking to hangar layout, tow paths, fire lanes and no-go zones
Recommended resin systems
Standard hangar deck spec — high-gloss, reflective, Skydrol-resistant with the correct top coat.
Wash-bay, paint-strip and heavy-chemistry zones needing full thermal and chemical resistance.
Dissipative system with copper earth grid for avionics work and fuelling zones.
Hangar layout, tow paths, jack points, fire lanes and no-go marking to your operations spec.
Installation process
- 1Substrate survey
Moisture, chemical contamination, joint condition and previous-coating tests.
- 2Full-hangar diamond grinding
Dust-extracted grinders across the whole deck; joint chase and repair before coating.
- 3Primer and repair
Damp-tolerant primer plus resin mortar to bridge shrinkage cracks and reinstate falls.
- 4High-build body coats
Roller-applied or squeegee-and-back-rolled epoxy at the specified film build.
- 5Seal coat
Aliphatic PU or Skydrol-resistant top coat for chemical stability and gloss retention.
- 6Line marking and handback
Resin-inlaid layout; cure and return-to-service times vary by system and site conditions.
Maintenance
- Daily sweep and pH-neutral wet clean
- Immediate wipe-off of Skydrol, jet-A and hydraulic spills
- Annual inspection of jack-pad zones and tow paths
- Re-coat the top seal when wear indicates it, rather than full reinstatement
Relevant regulations & standards
- Specialist ESD testing and verification can be arranged through an appropriate third party where required by the project specification
- Aviation authority operational guidance for fuelling and line marking
- COSHH-compliant cleaning chemistry checked against the resin manufacturer's chart
Aircraft Hangars FAQs
Can the floor really take Skydrol?
With the correct aliphatic PU or Skydrol-resistant top coat, yes. Standard workshop epoxies fail within days — we specify the right chemistry on day one.
Can you install without closing the hangar?
In most cases, yes. We work in half-hangar phases or between night-shift departures so operations continue on the untouched side. Programme and cure requirements depend on the resin system selected and site conditions.
Do you handle ESD-rated fuelling zones?
Yes — conductive epoxy with copper earth grid can be installed, with specialist testing and verification arranged through an appropriate third party where required by the project specification.
