Engineering & Manufacturing Resin Flooring

Every engineering shop we quote gets a system chosen around the actual process on the ground. Waterjet, CNC, welding, assembly — heavy-duty epoxy or PU screed, laid to hold flat under machine plinths and shrug off the fluids that come off the job.

Why resin

Why resin flooring works in engineering & manufacturing.

Engineering floors have to hold flat under machinery plinths, resist the specific oils and coolants that come off the process, and keep taking pallet-truck and forklift traffic through rotating shifts. The right resin system is a piece of production equipment — the wrong one is a maintenance liability.

We specify systems against the actual process — waterjet, CNC, injection moulding, welding, paint spray, assembly — after a physical survey with your engineering team. That's why our engineering floors don't come back into the maintenance budget every year.

Common flooring challenges

  • Cutting fluids and neat oils softening coatings that weren't spec'd for them
  • Impact damage under dropped tools, plates and workpieces
  • Static build-up in electronics and paint-spray areas
  • Point loading under machine plinths cracking thin screeds
  • Line marking and walkway demarcation wearing off within the year

Recommended resin systems

Heavy-duty epoxy

High-build epoxy self-smoother for general engineering, tool-room and assembly floors.

PU screed

Cementitious PU screed where impact, thermal shock and heavy chemical attack are combined.

ESD / anti-static resin

Conductive or dissipative epoxy for electronics assembly and paint-spray areas.

Line marking and demarcation

Resin-inlaid walkways, forklift routes and machine footprints to HSG65 principles.

Installation process

  1. 1
    Survey and moisture testing

Slab condition, chemical exposure map and machinery layout captured before spec is finalised.

  2. 2
Diamond grinding to the required surface profile

Full mechanical prep; captive shot-blast where profile depth requires it.

  3. 3
    Primer and crack repair

Epoxy primer plus resin mortar to bridge shrinkage cracks and reinstate falls.

  4. 4
    Body build

Epoxy self-smoother or PU screed pump-applied to design thickness, worked around machinery plinths.

  5. 5
    Seal coat and marking

Aliphatic PU seal for chemical stability, followed by inlaid line marking.

  6. 6
    Phased handback

Cure and return-to-service times vary by system and site conditions.

Maintenance

  • Daily deck-scrub with pH-neutral or mildly alkaline detergent
  • Wipe coolant and oil spills promptly to protect line-marking colour
  • Six-monthly inspection of expansion joints, machine plinths and drainage
  • Localised patch repairs re-integrate into the parent floor with no visible seam

Relevant regulations & standards

  • HSG65 workplace-transport principles for walkway and forklift demarcation
  • Slip resistance can be tailored through system and aggregate selection where the process introduces wet or oily contamination
  • COSHH-compliant cleaning chemistry checked against the resin manufacturer's chart

Engineering & Manufacturing FAQs

Can you install while the factory keeps running?

In many cases, yes — installation can be phased across weekends, night shifts or half-bay sections so production continues on the untouched side. Programme and cure requirements depend on the resin system selected and site conditions.

Will the floor hold under our machine plinths?

The system is specified to the actual point-loading you give us. We reinforce around plinths with resin mortar where required and never lay a thin coating under high-point loads.

Do you handle ESD / anti-static specs?

Yes. We install conductive and dissipative epoxy systems with copper earth grid for electronics assembly and paint-spray areas, specified to the ESD control requirements of your process.
